Chapter 3 Ayanna It was six o'clock in the fucking morning and what was I doing? Preparing to leave the comforts of my incredibly soft queen sized bed so I could drag my tired ass to the bathroom and prepare for my day. The past three days had passed too quickly for my taste and unfortunately I had to go to school. Unlike my boys who'd already graduated from the institution widely known as high school I, being the youngest of our crew, still had a year left. Talk about unfair. "Are you up" my mother's voice asked from behind my bedroom door and I rolled my eyes and told her yes before flinging my warm cream colored covers off my bed and flung my legs over the edge. I placed my head in my hands and rested my eyes as the temptation to go back to sleep started to take over; that's what I get for not coming back home from D's house until a little after one. The strap to my lime green baby doll slipped off my shoulder as I made my way to the bathroom and honestly I just didn't have the strength to correct it. As I walked into my bathroom I completely bypassed the tub for the toilet and sat down as I turned on, and adjusted, the water for my shower before rising from the cool porcelain and heading over to my sink where I promptly twisted my hair up and covered it with a purple shower cap. I brushed my teeth and gargled using my crest whitening mouth wash before slipping into the shower stall allowing the warm water to fully wake me before cleansing my body with a soft floral scented shower gel. Forty minutes later I left the bathroom feeling refreshed and ready to start my day. The transition from my bathroom to my bedroom was used to somewhat dry my body and I grabbed my Chanel velvet body cream and smoothed it over my damp skin. With that done I headed over to my chest of drawers and pulled out a simple white plunge bra and extreme low rise thong set and pulled them on, making the correct adjustments, before smoothing on a coat of deodorant. I glanced at the clock to see how much time I had before leaving my bedroom and walking into my vast walk-in closet. Luckily I had a particular outfit in mind so it wouldn't take me too long to get dressed. Just as I was sliding my white Gucci belt through the loops of my white low cut J Brand jeans my mother barged in my room dressed in a pair of fitting high waited denim Dsquared2 jeans, a simple red short sleeved shirt, and a pair of red pumps. She pushed her hair over her shoulder and leaned against the door way as if she was waiting for me. "Where are you going?" I asked her curiously as I pulled on my silk printed Gucci blouse, taking the time out to adjust the v neckline so it didn't show an obscene amount of cleavage. "I'm dropping you off today," she replied. "Why?" I asked her curiously as I slipped my feet into a pair of simple white Gucci sandals. "I'm perfectly capable of driving myself ma." "I'm sure you are," she replied with a placating tone as she ran a brush through my hair. "Ma!" She rolled her eyes as she handed me my wallet and said, "There's some forms that need to be filled out and guess what?" she asked rhetorically, "You're not legal. Your father has some business to take care of and can't go so here I am. You'll be okay with me driving you to school just this once. I'm sure people won't make a big deal out of it." "I could give two shits what people think," I replied simply as I grabbed my mint green purse. "Watch your mouth," my mother replied as I dabbed on a bit of my N°5 perfume. "Are you ready yet? Your first class starts at eight." "Come on," I replied with a roll of my eyes as I led the way out of my bedroom. Loreina It was a little after nine when I walked into the main office and the various secretaries were giving me nasty looks. It was my third time in a row coming to work late, I had enough credits but not enough hours to be a full time student so they gave me this as a substitute for a class, and they were getting annoyed but damn it five thirty was a little too early to be getting up to make it to a job I wasn't getting paid for so they'd just have to deal. I pulled off my structured denim jacket to reveal a simple white tank and a pair of extreme low rise jeans that had the older women shaking their head in shame. Sometimes older women got on my nerves. It was like they forgot the days when they wore those hoochie-fied mini dresses that were barely longer than the average tunic. Just as I logged onto my computer and was in the process of typing in the web address to my favorite music site I heard the principal, Mr. Garrett, call my name. I quickly hit the button for the school's homepage before making my way over to him and a younger girl whose mother, or some other female relative, walked out of the door. "How can I help you Mr. Garrett?" I asked him with a plastered smile on my face. "Yes, our new student needs to be shown to her classes and when you're done with that the two of us need to have a talk about your punctuality, more precisely the lack there of," he replied before walking off. I rolled my eyes at him before taking in the girl in front of me. She had been looking on at the scene in amusement and while I usually didn't get along with females I had to at least admit that this one had style. "Let me see your schedule." She handed it to and I glanced over it before nodding and turning my attention back to her, "Well you already missed your first period so I'll just show you where it and the rest of your classes are before taking you to your next class." "Thank you," she replied calmly as she walked next to me. Ayanna After following Loreina, the girl my new principal had show me the way around school, around for the last twenty minutes I headed over to the math hall to make it to my 13 AP Calculus class. There wasn't too many people in the room since the bell had just rang but the ones who were there glanced at me curiously as I handed the teacher my schedule so that she could initial it before heading over to a seat near the window and sat down. I pulled out my new white based multicolored Louis Vuitton diary and grabbed the matching blue Louis Vuitton pen and jotted down the current date as I waited for the late bell to ring so that the teacher could start the lesson. Just then I heard a group of girl's laughing and glanced at the door to see Kendra walk in dressed casually in a pair of denim low rise capri's, a semi sheer BEBE hunter green tank top with a cropped jacket over it, and a pair of hunter green Guess peep toe pumps on her feet. Obviously something was pushing the two of us together because it seemed as if I ran into her a billion times over the last three days. Kendra I walked into my Calculus class and turned my attention away from my best friend Summer and headed over to our regular seats only to pause when I saw Jabaris's God sister sitting comfortably in my seat. Summer glanced at Ayanna and then back to me to see if I was going to tell her to move. When I didn't she and Amanda headed over to their own seats and left me to either educate Ayanna on the seating arrangements or take another seat. Starting a conflict wasn't what was on my mind though; finding the reason why she was in my school is what had my full attention. "What's up Ayanna?" I asked her as I took the empty seat opposite her and across from Amanda. "Not a thing," she replied before crossing her legs and drumming her nails on the desk. "You two know each other?" Amanda's nosey ass asked. "Obviously," Ayanna replied as if her statement was the dumbest question to have ever been asked. "Rude much?" Amanda asked as she flung her hair over her shoulder. Ayanna didn't even bother signifying her statement with a response. She just turned her attention towards me and said, "So what is it that you do here for fun?" "I'm surprised you didn't ask D that," I replied snidely. She cocked her head to the side and gave me a curious look before chuckling and saying, "You have balls. I like that. I think we'll get along well." "Who are you?" Summer asked annoyed. Summer, Amanda and I basically ran our school. We were attractive so of course all the guys wanted us, popular because we were easy going and because of that all the girls wanted to be us. Every spot has that popular crew that everyone wanted to belong to and we were it. You just don't come to our school and approach us, we approach you and of course the girls didn't like the fact that the hierarchy was being disturbed. Honesty, I couldn't blame them but I doubt they had much need to worry because even though I didn't know Ayanna well, I knew that she wasn't for the average high school shit. She was just passing through and I could respect that. As long as she didn't try to disrupt my reign here we would be fine. "I'm that bitch you'll never be," Ayanna replied simply before dismissing her as the teacher walked in. Ayanna When the final bell rang at 1:50pm signaling the end of my day I couldn't help the happiness that suddenly bubbled within me. High school...what can I say? It was just a waste of time for me. Don't get me wrong, education is important and all but school was never my number one priority and yet I couldn't remember a time when I hadn't excelled in it. There was just no challenge at all. Besides high school was just there to pass the time until I entered college. My parents had always been adamant about college and honestly I couldn't blame them. The knowledge of how corporations were ran, thanks to my father's degree from UCLA, allowed him to reorganize the bloods into a profitable multi-million dollar business. I'd seen the results first hand what a good education could do for you and I was determined to succeed whether it be in organized crime or corporate America. The world was going to know Ayanna Grandberry, best believe. As I made my way through the vast building that was my new school I felt eyes watch me pass by. Other females would have felt self conscious but stares were something I was used to. When I was younger, it was because of who my parents were and as I got older I gained my own reputation. Most people who saw me thought that my reputation was all rumors because seriously, how could anyone as innocent looking as I be as violent and dangerous as they say? Others who knew of me through first or second hand experiences thought I was the devil incarnate. Shit, you cut off one man's balls and no one ever lets you forget it. I just call myself a no nonsense type of chick. In the game I'd been birthed into, there was no room for mistakes. Mistakes could get you killed and I wasn't ready to die yet. I walked outside and began to glance around for someone familiar. My mother didn't tell me exactly who was coming to pick me up and I wasn't trying to be standing outside all damn day looking like a damn fool because my ride was late. Just as I was about to delve in my purse for my phone I noticed a group of girls crowded around someone leaning against a silver 2007 Mercedes Coup. Now I don't have ESP or anything but I had damn good eyesight and I could recognize D's personalized plates a mile away. Okay, so it's my first day at a new school and while I couldn't give a fuck what people thought about me I wasn't trying to make enemies this early in the game but I knew how females got over attractive men. Hell, I'd lost quite a few good friendships over Darnell and girls who I thought were friends trying to push up on him. Coming into a new school and squashing female's chance of getting with the guy they so obviously wanted wasn't an ideal situation but I wasn't one to live my life for others so I did what I do best. Make my presence known. I slipped my white gold framed Nefarious aviator sunglasses over my eyes before grabbing my phone and dialing Darnell's number. As I waited for him to answer I slipped my white and silver Bluetooth ear piece in my ear before closing my phone and tossing it in my purse. Obviously everyone seemed to drive here so it seemed everyone under the age of 16 rushed around the crowd of upperclassmen to catch their bus. "Baby, where are you?" Darnell's voice asked, not bothering to say hello. I glanced at the girls in front of him and knew by their posture that they weren't feeling his term of endearment. A smile slipped over my lips as I said, "I'm standing across from you. I didn't want to interrupt you and your...admirers." He snorted at that and made his way through the girls who turned to see where he was going before trailing him. They stopped short when they noticed he was coming towards me. One girl cocked her head to the side and I knew she was sizing me up as Darnell came over and looped his right index finger in one of my belt loops and pulled me lightly towards him before placing a soft kiss on my lips. "Umm," I moaned lightly, "give me another one." He chuckled and leaned down to give me another kiss. Before we had a chance to head over to his car the female who'd been checking him out walked over. She was a pretty girl, but like so many other's she didn't leave much to the imagination and while that attracted most men, it certainly wouldn't keep them home for long. The girl was dressed in a pair of low rise cropped Baby Phat jeans that were a size too small and pasted on her like a second layer of skin and a matching cropped bustier type top covered her breasts. Her hair, which was clearly lengthened with bright red hair weave, was straightened and fell down past her shoulders and her bright red polish covered toes were encased in a pair of brown sandals. "Hey Sincere," she replied and licked her lips before saying, "I didn't know you had a little sister here." I knew good and well that this chick didn't think I was his sister. Shit, I didn't know what family she came from but in ours, we didn't do that 'kissing cousins' shit. Unlike most females, I'm a firm believer in allowing a man to set a chick straight. That way the female hears it from the horses mouth and I wasn't disappointed either. "This isn't my sister," he replied with a knowing look on his face, "this is my girl." "Girl?" she asked in disbelief. "What so she's your new jump off? What happened to Courtney and Shantice? Were they not enough for you?" I knew this girl too well. I'd just met her but she's just like all the other females I'd encountered over the years. She just didn't know her place or what to say out of her mouth but she wouldn't be getting the violent reaction she sought from me. See, Ayanna didn't fight over men or petty shit. I'm above that but I wasn't above setting a bitch straight. "No sweetie," I replied calmly as I leaned against Darnell. "I'm not his jump off, although I'm sure you wished you were his new hoe of the moment. I'm his girl, always have been and always will be." "That's what you think. He's been with so many other girls besides you and it's laughable," she replied wish a sneer and I noticed Kendra standing off to the side trying to hear what I had to say. "And yet just a few minutes ago you were trying to be the next chick on his dick," I replied without any emotion. "Excuse me, we have places to be." With that said I walked over toward his car and waited for Darnell to pop the locks and opened the passenger side door for me. I slid into the cool leather seats and waited for him to take the driver's seat so that we could go about our business. Kendra I watched Ayanna and Darnell drive off and I had to give the girl one thing, if nothing else; she was a better woman than I. Had some chick been all up in my face saying some of the things Marly had said to her, I would have caused a scene. That bitch would have been embarrassed and Jabaris would have had his nuts handed to him. Ayanna was a little too calm and collected for me and that made me hesitant towards her. She had this 'I don't give a fuck' aura about her and that was never a good sign. Chicks like her always brought problems because they had no fear. |
