GOOD GIRL
Chapter 3
After Marissa and Fizz ended the dance, a few guys approached her for dances. Some she danced with and others she didn’t, like Omari. Although she knew that he was irritated that she wasn’t going with the flow, she knew that he didn’t expect her to just right out dance with him. That would have made his job too easy.
Marissa found herself in the kitchen, where Oryan happened to be stashed at for the moment, to get something to drink. She saw the surprised look on his face when he saw her outfit but she just gave him a cute little wink as she took a swig of her bottled water.
“I’m glad you came girl. I thought that I was going to have to make a trip over to your house,” Oryan said with a smile on his face.
“You know I could never say no to you boo,” Marissa said as she sat across from him on the island.
“I saw you dancing with Fizz out there and I think I deserve a dance too, with me being fine and everything,” Oryan joked as he took her water and took a drink.
“Can’t you get your own freaking water? This is your fridge and I’m sure that you know that it’s overly stocked,” Marissa said as she rolled her eyes.
“Everything tastes better after you’ve had it,” Oryan said as he threw the now empty bottle in the trash and grabbed her hand.
“Where do you think you’re taking me?” Marissa asked.
“To the dance floor,” Oryan said as if she was stupid.
As soon as they got on the floor the music stopped blasting from the state of the art stereo system that the Grandberry’s had and a DJ set up his equipment on a stage like space that was set up in the back of the large room. Oryan stood next to Marissa as the guy finished setting up his equipment. As soon as he finished plugging everything up Omari came on the stage and gave the guy a pound before picking up a microphone.
“Hey y’all. I decided to do a little performance with my boys at my lil brother’s party and I have to say that,” Omari paused then sang, “I got everything I want in my life except a girlfriend.”
As soon as he said that the music started playing and the girls started screaming. Omari’s boys Fizz, Razz, and Rell (who was really his cousin) came onto the stage and grabbed microphones and started singing with Omari.
Marissa just stood there as some girl came up to Oryan and pulled him away. Marissa was about to leave the room full of screaming girls when Omari pointedly locked eyes with her as he sung the song. Marissa, for some reason, couldn’t pull her eyes away from his.

As he finished singing with his boys, all the girls in the house were crowding them but somehow Omari still found his way over to Marissa and pulled her onto the dance floor. The DJ was spinning some reggae song and she knew that if Omari grabbed her hand and pulled her onto the crowded dance floor, she would have to no choice but to dance closely with him.
Marissa tried to push through the throngs of people so that she could get away from the spot where Omari last saw her but I guess God wasn’t on her side because as soon as a spot was clear, Omari appeared and grabbed her hand and gently guided her onto the dance floor. Marissa huffed, wishing that she could be anywhere but where she was and kept it moving.
Omari led them to a somewhat secluded part of the dance floor and grabbed her by the waist. Omari grinded into Marissa and although Marissa didn’t care for him, she had to admit that the boy could dance. Marissa moved her body to the music as her eyes locked with Omari’s.
Marissa felt Omari moving her closer to the wall but she couldn’t gather the strength to tell him to stop. She gasped in surprise when she felt her back contact with the wall. She saw the smirk suddenly appear on Omari’s face but at the moment, she really didn’t care. It didn’t matter that she disliked him with a passion and that she had vowed to never let him to get to her. All that mattered now was him, her and the music blasting over the speakers.
Omari lifted his hand and gently caressed her cheek before leaning down to kiss her. It was the type of kiss that made your toes curl and your blood burn. Marissa had forgotten all about how much she disliked Omari when he put his skillful lips to work. She unconsciously responded until the music stopped. When the song ended she realized just what she was doing and how wrong it was.
She quickly untangled her hands from their spot on the nape of his neck, removed his hands from around her waist, and pushed past him. She maneuvered her way through the crowd until she got to the closet where her coat was stored. She put on her coat and proceeded to leave Oryan’s house.
Marissa woke up Monday morning feeling a bit apprehensive about starting her day. She still couldn’t believe that she allowed Omari to kiss her and then on top of that she actually liked it. That, and the fact that she had a bad feeling about the day, made her wish that it was still Sunday. She just had this feeling in the pit of her stomach saying that something was going to go wrong.
She shrugged off the feeling and took her shower. Once she was clean and her breath was fresh, she left her bathroom and slid on a pair of undergarments before searching for something to wear. It took her a minute but she had found an outfit that she would be comfortable wearing.
She put on a pair of white ankle socks before slipped on her blue, somewhat baggy, cut-off jeans that hung low on her hips. She then put on a baby blue Von Dutch tank top that revealed a bit of her flat stomach before slipping on her blue/white/gray Nike's. Once she was dressed she walked over to her dresser and picked up her Fire and Ice and sprayed a bit on her neck then picked up a baby blue scrunchie as well as a dark blue one then made her way back to her bathroom. She combed the few tangles out of her hair before putting it in a high ponytail, holding it with her scrunchies.
Once she was finished doing her hair she walked back into her room and picked up her blue jean jacket, her baby blue and dark blue Von Dutch hat, sunglasses, as well as her books and left her room. She walked down into the kitchen where she picked up something to eat and left the house.
Marissa was on her way to lunch. So far everything had been good. She didn’t run into Omari and she had seen Oryan, who was happy because he had a date with some girl that he was feeling. That was when the good things ended because as soon as Marissa walked into the cafeteria she saw three guys walk up to Oryan who looked somewhat angry.
“What the hell?” Marissa asked herself as she started to take her earrings off.
Then all of a sudden all three guys jumped Oryan. Marissa’s vision quickly began to cloud over with a tint of red. “Oh hell no,” Marissa said before she ran behind one of the guys and kicked him hard between the legs while forcefully swinging her Trig textbook at another’s head.
Oryan was viscously fighting the leader of the three while Marissa forcefully threw her textbook at the guy she just hit in the head then kicked the other guy hard in the back. Before she could give another kick she heard someone yelling that security was coming. Marissa let Oryan get another punch in before she picked up her book and pulled him away from the scene.
They left the cafeteria, opting for off school lunch, and headed to Wendy’s in Oryan’s car.
“Are you alright?” Oryan asked as he drove out of the student parking lot.
“I think I should be asking you the same thing,” Marissa said as she looked at Oryan carefully to see if he had any injuries.
“I’m good. I’ve had more action than that during football practice. I know that most people will be talking about that for a while. I mean Miss Goody Goody actually got in a fight!” Oryan joked.
“That wasn’t even my fight but I wasn’t just about to watch some niggas jump you. Besides, I’m not that big of a Goody Goody, it’s just that I know the difference between an inner school attitude and an outer school attitude. School is like a job and I try to be professional about it because when it’s time for me to graduate I don’t want to have to go to my elective teachers for recommendations. Especially since my Trig teacher is a Delta and that’s what I want, and have always wanted, to be,” Marissa replied.
“I understand. What’s with you and Delta’s anyway. You’ve always talked about that but you never told me why,” Oryan replied.
“Delta’s are just all around good sister’s. I mean some people say that they think they’re better than the rest but that’s what sorority pride is all about. I’m not saying I’m stuck up or condone being that way but when you work hard to get what you want and do it honestly while others slack off to party gives you that right. Besides the fact that the only other sorority I would even think of joining if there wasn’t Delta would be AKA’s but that’s not my first choice because of past discrimination.
I know some people be like AKA’s are the best because they were there first and because Delta’s were made because of a few girls who couldn’t make Delta. But the truth in that is that sororities originated in the south and of course the south was the last to give of slavery. Because of this there were still closed-minded people and the rule to get into AKA’s back in the day wasn’t your grade point average, or community service record, or even your school participation percentage. The rule was that you had to be lighted than a paper bag. Tell me how fucked up that is. I’d rather join an association who were a bit stuck up because of their accomplishments that an association that might not even allowed me to join their home because my skin was darker than the lightest brown paper bag that they could find,” Marissa replied.
“You know you just spilt some knowledge on me because I didn’t even know that. It’s cool that you’re going to try to join Delta because I was going to try pledging Q Dog’s,” Oryan said.
“OH! You trying to be my brother now?” Marissa asked.
“I was always your brother in heart but this is the closest that I’m ever going to get considering that you and my brother can’t stand each other,” Oryan mentioned.
Marissa froze up for a minute. Omari was still a touchy subject for her but she wouldn’t let Oryan know. His observational skills were too overly developed for her to accidentally slip up and let anything come out from the night of the party.
Marissa was on her way home later that day when she noticed she had a voice message. She put the earpiece to her phone in her ear and while she was at a red light she went to the menu and pressed the button that allowed her to listen to the message.
‘Marissa, it’s Omari. I was wondering when we could go out. I know you like me girl and it’s best if you don’t deny it. I mean that kiss more than says that you don’t detest me, yeah I have a vocabulary. Something that you didn’t seem to want to notice before you started your Holier Than Thou shit. I’m not going to wait on you forever girl but I’ll give you a while to hit me up on my offer. Holla at me later.’
