PLAYING WITH FIRE
Chapter 4

Koren

"You’re on time," Lauren replied as I walked into her home.

"I try to be punctual," I told her with a smile.

"Alright, let's head into the formal living room. That's where the piano is," she replied.

I'd decided that I wanted to do something special for Dreux on our wedding day so I tweaked one of my favorite songs for him. The first time I heard Kissing You while watching Romeo & Juliet the first person I thought of was Dreux. Singing had always been a talent of mine, though I didn't do it often, and felt my wedding day would be a good time to express myself in a way that was close to Dreux's heart. Lauren was a friend I'd met through Dreux. The woman could play the piano better than anyone I'd ever met and she'd agreed to help me practice the song as well as perform it with me at the reception. As I finished the last repetition of the chorus I heard sniffling. I looked up to see Lauren in tears.

      "What's wrong L?" I asked her.

"Girl Dreux is going to be speechless. You sang the hell out of that song," she replied as she wiped her tears away.

"Let's go through it once more," I asked her before taking a sip of my tea.

Jarell

"Congratulations J," Koren replied with a smile as she engulfed me in a hug.

"Thanks Ren," I told her before glancing around the room for Kendra.

It's been about three months since I'd popped the question and this was the first weekend Kendra and I had free that we could actually plan an engagement party. Dreux had arrived an hour ago, without Koren because she had a book signing, and as soon as Kendra's friend Candy saw him she'd been on his tail. That girl needed to take a fucking hint. I just hoped nothing popped off because this was supposed to be a celebration of my and Kendra's commitment, not some scandal caused by a girl who didn't now her place.

"Have you seen Dreux? I want to ask him about this idea I had for the drinks during the reception," Koren asked.

"He went to the office to make a business call about an hour ago," I told her.

She nodded and handed me a gift before walking off to find Dreux.

Koren

I waved at various people I knew as I headed upstairs, which had been off limits for the party, in destination of Jarell's office. A frown crossed my face as I got closer towards the office and didn't hear Dreux's familiar voice speaking. The door to the office was cracked so I slowly pushed it open and paused in shock at the scene before me. Dreux was leaning against one of the walls and Kendra's conniving best friend stood in front of him with her tongue in her mouth. My heart just stopped and I could do nothing but watch as she released him and dropped to her knees. She quickly unzipped his pants and pulled his dick out of his boxers before swallowing it in one swoop and Dreux didn't say anything to stop her. At that moment I got sick and ran to the closest bathroom and threw up.

Dreux

Carla, or whatever the hoe's name was, swallowed my dick and I'll be lying if I said it didn't feel good as a motherfucker. As good as she was, she didn't hold a candle to Koren. Koren!.

      "Stop," I ordered the girl.

She just tightened her lips and swallowed. A groan forced its way out of my lips as I grabbed her head and forcefully pushed her away from me.

      "What?" she asked shocked.

"This was a mistake," I told her as I slipped myself back in my boxers and pulled my jeans back up.

She snorted and said, "It's already done. We might as well finish."

"You're a scandalous hoe, you know that right?" I asked her.

"I wasn't a hoe five minutes ago," she snapped as she rose from her knees.

"Yes you were. You were just sucking my dick five minutes ago," I corrected her before walking out of the bathroom and heading downstairs so I could greet my baby when she walked in.

Candace

I watched Dreux walk off pissed the fuck off. After a deep calming breath I fingered my hair and popped a mint before leaving the office. I barely made two steps out of the door when I saw Koren walking down the hall dressed in a pair of denim jeans, a cute metallic stripped shirt, and a pair of metallic orange mules.

"What's up girl?" I asked her.

She gave me this icy look before swinging and punching me in the face. The force of the unexpected punch knocked me down.

"What the fuck bitch!" I spat as I felt the side of my face she just hit in shock.

"I'll show you a bitch," she snapped as kicked me hard in the stomach.

I curled into a fetal position to lessen the pain of the blows when suddenly she stopped. I glanced up to see her walking away from me and cursed to myself knowing that I had just seriously screwed myself over.

Koren

I made my way downstairs and didn't even bother to give anyone a second glance as I left Jarell and Kendra's spot for the house I shared with Dreux. Never in a million years would I have ever expected Dreux to disrespect me and what we had the way he did. I couldn't even stand to look at him right now and I just needed some time alone to regroup. I headed into the closet and grabbed the first piece of luggage I came across and began to fill it with as many clothes as I could.

Dreux

"Have you seen Koren? She was supposed to be here by now," I asked Jarell after I'd gotten a drink from his open bar.

"She came in like twenty minutes ago looking for you. I sent her to my office. You should have run into each other a long time ago," Jarell replied.

"You sent her upstairs twenty minutes ago?" I asked as apprehension grew inside of me.

      "Yeah? I don't understand-"

I didn't give Jarell enough time to finish his statement. I shoved my drink in his hand and ran out of his house like a bat out of hell.

'Please, please be there when I get home,' I chanted to myself as I sped down the streets of LA to get to my house.

Koren

I'd just tossed my bag into the passenger seat of the car and was sliding in the driver's side when Dreux's car pulled in beside me. I wiped the tears from my eyes and popped the locks before turning on the ignition and backing up.

"Koren! Baby let me explain!" he called after me.

I rolled down the window and screamed, "We don't have shit to talk about Dreux."

"Baby please!" he called after me.

"Fuck you! The wedding's off!" I screamed and paused long enough to pull my ring off my engagement ring off my finger and threw it at his window with all my might before driving off.

Dreux

I watched Koren speed off and felt my heart drop. It was my own fault, though, for not being able to keep my dick in my pants. The fucked up part was that I ruined my life for a bitch that wasn't even worth it. She had nothing on Koren and yet I let one moment ruin everything.

The urge to follow Koren was strong but I knew that she didn't want to be around me. Right now what she needed was time and I hoped that she would realize that I was sorry and that what we had was worth working out.

Jarell

"You look like shit," I told Dreux honestly as I stopped by his house to see if everything was okay.

It had been five weeks since my engagement party and Dreux had barely left the house since. I'd found out what happened through Kendra who was screaming on a black eyed Candace. Dreux was my man and everything but he really fucked up. On top of that I haven't heard from nor seen Koren since my party. It was like she dropped off the face of the planet. Dreux had gone ahead and sent out a notice of his wedding's cancellation and I'll be the first to say that I felt bad for him. He ruined a good thing but he had to get his swag back. This wasn't the end of the world.

"Thank you J. I really needed to hear that right now," Dreux said in a board tone as he tweaked the beat he'd been working on.

"Have you taken a shower today?" I asked him apprehensively as I handed him the food Kendra had prepared earlier.

"I've been in the zone," was all he said.

"You need to snap out of this shit man. This isn't the Dreux I know. What happened to you?"

"Koren happened to me!" he snapped. "She up and fucking left and isn't accepting me calls! All my calls go straight to voice mail and the one time I got through she hung up on me. You know she threw her engagement ring at me?"

I sat there and listened because I knew he needed to get this out.

"This was the woman I was going to spend the rest of my life with. She was going to be the mother of my children but she threw everything away like it wasn't shit. I fucked up! I know that but I'm fucking sorry. How many times do I have to tell her that? How long do I have to beg?"

"Until she forgives you," I answered simply. "Right now you're hurt so you don't see it from her point of view but what if you found out she let the next dude go down on her? You'd be out for blood. Not only does she know you were fucking with Candace, she saw you."

"I wasn't fucking with that girl!" he growled. "She sucked my dick. Wooptie-fucking-doo. It wasn't even that serious."

"So if you walked in on Marcello eating her out you'd be alright with it?" I asked him rhetorically.

"I get you J," he replied as he dropped his head in his hands. "I just want my wife back."

"Then you have to grovel, plead, and then grovel some more," I pointed out before telling him to call me if he needed me.

Kendra

"Where have you been?" I asked Koren as soon as she sat down in the seat across from me. As usual she looked well put together in her low riding Evisu jeans, yellow top, and brown wedges but I'd noticed that she'd lost an incredible amount of weight and I was sure that her sunglasses were more than just an accessory.

"Here and there. How are things going with you?" she asked lightly as the waiter came over and asked for our order. "Just water."

"Koren, you have to eat something," I told her.

"I don't have an appetite," she answered serenely before pushing the subject back on me.

"Well Jarell and I finally set a date. We decided on New Years Eve, that way we could get married between two years," I replied excitedly.

"Have you found a dress?" she asked.

"Yes. I actually just decided yesterday. It's so beautiful. I knew it was the one as soon as I tried it on. I'm sure you'll love it," I gushed.

"I'm sure I will," she replied with a polite smile.

"I was thinking," I started, "I want you to be one of my bridesmaids."

"I'm flattered, really, but I don't think so," she said mournfully.

"You have to be at my wedding Koren," I pointed out to make sure that she knew that I wouldn't allow her to miss one of the most important days of my life because she and Dreux were trippin'. I felt for her, really I did, but it's been months and besides my wedding was two months away (Jarell and I basically took over the spaces Koren and Dreux had and pushed it back a little so that the wedding planner would have enough time to tweak everything to our liking).

"I wouldn't miss your wedding Kendra. I just can't be apart of your wedding party. Jarell and D-him have been friends for years and it's damn near set in stone that he'd be one of the groomsmen," she pointed out. "I actually want to do something special for you and Jarell if you don't mind. I was actually supposed to do it for my wedding but-"

"I'd be honored!" I interrupted, glad that she wasn't backing out of the event altogether.

She just smiled as switched to a 'safe' subject of how work was going. I was telling her about this huge commission I got when someone interrupted us. I looked up with a smile though Koren didn't even acknowledge the person.

"Come on Ren. The man has been miserable since you left," my boo Jarell jumped in to throw in his two cents causing me to take a closer looked at Dreux. As usual his hair was pulled out and while he was looking good in his Antik denim jeans and black beater under his black BBC hoodie you could see his normal swag was off center.

"That's no longer my problem," she answered stoically before giving me an apologetic look and making motions to leave the restaurant.

Koren

"Baby wait," Dreux called after me as he jogged over and grabbed my arm.

I snatched it out of his reach before continuing on my way.

      "Corey-"

"You're causing a scene Dreux," I pointed out.

"I don't give a fuck!" he snapped. "Just give me a minute to explain."

"Explain what?" I snapped. "You're going to explain how I walked in on you kissing another female or how about you explaining why you didn't stop her when she dropped to her knees and began sucking your dick?"

"Baby it wasn't like that at all-"

"I really don't want to hear your excuses right now," I told him clearly as the valet came with my car.

"Don't do this to us," he called after me.

"You did this to us," I clarified as I slipped into the driver's seat of my car and drove off.

Jarell

Kendra and I looked at each other with apprehension as we watched a dejected Dreux enter the restaurant. When Kendra slipped out that she was having lunch with Koren I had decided to play mediator. Honestly, I wouldn't have gotten in the situation if Koren hadn't been missing in action for the last couple of months. Dreux fucked up and he knew it but he was sorry and ready to get his girl back. Unfortunately for Dreux, Koren wasn't even trying to hear it.

"See what you did?" Koren snapped lightly just before Dreux got to the table she had be occupying with Koren.

"Hey Dreux," Kendra replied with a smile.

"What's up K?" he asked her rhetorically before turning his attention to be. "You can handle this meeting on you own, right?"

I looked at him already knowing that he wasn't in the mood for this so I waved him off and told him to go on and handle his business. Dreux gave me a pound before leaving the restaurant, eyes watching him inconspicuously ready to spread the news of what had happened earlier.
