Chapter 2 Trish woke up early Tuesday morning and headed to the bathroom. She brushed her teeth and washed her face before heading into the shower stall and turning on the water. She washed herself with her Vanilla Lace body wash before washing her hair. She then turned off the water and wrapped her robe around her body and headed to the sink. She pulled her hair back into a tight high ponytail so that when her hair dried it would curl up into a cute style. Trish headed into her room and made her way to her dresser and grabbed her deodorant and lotion. She applied both properly before grabbing her ice blue lace bra and low rise thong and sliding it on. She pulled it on before getting dressed and heading to school. She wasn’t even planning on watching the news because she didn’t want to have the chance of seeing whether something happened with Druex. He was the one stable thing in her life at the moment and she didn’t know whether she could handle it if something happened to him. Druex woke up the next morning, paranoid as hell but he looked calm and collected. He had learned earlier in life to mask his emotions and he thanked the lord that he did. He made his way to the kitchen and turned on the little television so that he could watch some music videos while he made breakfast. He was in the middle of making his eggs when the videos cut off and a news break came on and he paused as they told the report about how an armored truck had been robbed and that there was a warrant for the perpetrator’s arrest. He watched as they showed a picture of a guy clad in all black going into the truck and coming out with two bags assumed to be full of money. Then the caption of the license plate that was on his get-a-way car. He was suddenly thankful that he wasn’t stupid enough to use his own car. He cut off the stove before he burnt his eggs and realized that he would have to leave soon. It was only a matter of time before someone spoke his name. He knew that no one knew that she stole that car but someone could have seen him driving it and he wasn’t trying to spend the rest of his life for first degree murder and then stealing money from the federal government. He headed to the shower and washed his body before heading to his room and throwing on a pair of boxers and rolling on his deodorant. He then grabbed his Jergin’s cherry almond lotion and smoothed it on his creamy caramel skin. He then grabbed his slightly baggy light blue jeans and pulled them over his hips before grabbing a white wife beater and pulling it over his head. He was about to put on a pair of white socks when his mother knocked on his door. “Yeah?” he asked as he put on his socks. “I’m about to go to work. I’ll see you later,” his mother said at his door. “Alright, I love you,” he said as he stuck his feet in his white on white Uptowns (Air Force 1’s). He pulled his white short sleeved t-shirt over his head as he heard the front door close. He then lightly sprayed on his Curve for men before pulling his hair back into a ponytail. Once he was dressed he looked out his window to make sure his mom made it to her car and was down the block before getting his bags from under his bed and leaving his apartment and heading towards his car. He popped his trunk and threw his bags in the trunk and locked it before driving to school. As he parked in his regular spot in the student parking lot he saw a familiar girl walking towards the building. She was wearing a delicate baby blue silk spaghetti strapped shirt that showed a nice amount of cleavage without her looking like a hoe, a pair of white satin pants that hugged her body right, and one her small feet were a pair of baby blue Hijo Manolo Blonhik boots. Her dark brown hair, which was usually down to her waist, was up in a neat bun and complemented her face. Her brown skin had a light shine to it and to him she was perfect. He popped his alarm then quickly, yet quietly, made his way behind her. When she stood at her locker he wrapped his strong arms around her waist and kissed her neck. He smiled as he felt her lean back gently into his touch. She turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his firmly on the lips before asking him where he had been the day before. “I was handling some business. I’ll tell you about it later,” he said noticing her look. Just as Trish was about to ask him why he didn’t call her Omari came over and gave Druex some dap. Druex smiled but shook his head when he saw the look in his and Jarell’s eyes. He had no doubt that they saw the news report and wanted to know what he was thinking when he pulled something like that and to make sure that he had his back covered when the cops started looking for him. Druex was on his way to his locker when the bell rung. He shrugged his shoulder, seeing that as long as he got to class before the late bell than he was straight. He quickly got his books for his second period, which was accounting, and headed down the hall for that room. It was eleven fifty-five when the bell rang signaling the end of fourth period. Trish handed her test paper to her teacher before heading to her locker to put her books away so that she could bounce. She got to leave early because she was a senior and had enough credits to graduate so she didn’t have to stay the whole day. She headed outside and stood by Druex’s car and waited for him to arrive. When he did she saw him in a heated argument with Omari who looked pissed. Trish wondered what was going on but she didn’t like to get in his business too much unless she thought he was in trouble and she knew that Omari was family and wouldn’t intentionally hurt Druex. She dug into her blue knock off Luis Vuitton purse and grabbed her clear I-Iman lip gloss and smoothed it over her full lips as she waited for Druex and Omari to finish their conversation. Five minutes later he ran across the street and unlocked the doors and held the door for her before going to his side and driving off to Tony Romans. Thirty minutes they were sitting in a dark corner in the intimately lit restaurant holding menus. Trish quickly ordered a plate of baby back ribs and Druex ordered a steak. Once the waiter was gone Druex looked across the table and stared at Trish for a minute before starting the conversation. “Do you love me?” he asked. “What kind of question is that?” Trish asked as a frown formed on her face. “An easy and very important one. Do you love me?” he repeated. “Yes I love you,” Trish responded. “Are you down with me through whatever?” he asked. “Yes and you know this,” Trish replied. “Are you the Bonnie to my Clyde?” he asked with a smirk on his face. “No doubt,” she answered with a smile. “If I needed to disappear would you come with me?” he asked seriously. “You mean leave my mother and my friends?” she asked. “Yeah,” he answered as the waiter came back with their drinks. Trish sat there to think for a while. She didn’t know if she could do it. Could she leave her mother, who she wasn’t sure cared for her much seeing as she always took her boyfriend’s side over hers. Could she leave her friends? Could she just leave and not regret being there for her graduation? Better yet could she give up on love because she was scared to take a chance? Could she handle watching her man leave and not knowing if he was okay? “You did it didn’t you?” Trish asked slowly as she stared in his eyes as the waiter came up. “Can I get my order to go? We just got a call from a family member who got in an accident,” Druex said to the waiter. The waiter nodded and headed to the back to wrap their meals up. Trish stared at him already knowing the answer to her question. She couldn’t believe that he had actually taken that money. She knew that he had done some things, she’d even participated in some of his schemes but she’d never thought that he’d go that far. The waiter came back ten minutes later with their food in boxes and a check. Druex reached into his pocket and pulled out a fifty and a twenty and placed it in the bill jacket before standing up and leading Trish to his car. As they sat in the car in front of her apartment building Druex turned to her and asked, “Are you coming with me?” Trish stared him in the eye and went over the pros and cons one more time before saying, “I’m with you.” |
